Telephone Advice
Both surgeries currently operate a Telephone Triage System. If you feel your problem can be dealt with by a doctor over the telephone you will need to ring the surgery between 8.30am and 9:30am in the morning. A receptionist will take your name, date of birth, telephone number and an outline of the problem. The doctor on triage will ring you back during the morning and discuss your problem/query over the telephone and advise you accordingly. If the doctor feels you need to be seen, an appointment will be offered.
Seeing a Doctor
If you develop an acute illness and want to be seen on the day, please ring at 8:30am and we will arrange for you to be seen. If you wish to see a specific doctor we will tell you when their next available appointment is. We try to make sure you see the doctor of your choice but if they are not available we may ask you to see another doctor. We will try and see you within 20 minutes of you appointment time and will give you an explanation if any delays occur. If you have an urgent medical problem please see the emergency section. We also have routine Pre-bookable appointment which we can book for patients who wish to see a GP in the near future these can be between 2 – 3 weeks.
Seeing a Nurse or Health Care Assistant
Our nurses and health care assistants see patients by appointment only. Many routine checks ups are dealt with by the nurses and they monitor patients with chronic diseases and long term medical problems and in addition, they can look after minor injuries and advise you if you are ill and not sure what to do. Our nurses also give advice on healthy living, travel and contraception. They offer cervical screening (smear clinics), contraception checks, injections, dressings, blood pressure checks, Spirometry and what appropriate immunisation and travel vaccines you may need, and much more. In addition, we have a nurse prescriber who can see and provide advice and medication for patients with minor illnesses.
Emergencies
If you need to see a doctor in an emergency and it is during surgery hours, please let the receptionist know. We will always see genuine medical emergencies promptly.
Outside surgery hours please telephone the surgery and you will automatically be diverted to the Out of Hours Service or telephone 111. Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board are responsible for providing this service to you. Alternatively contact NHS Direct Wales on 0845 46 47 or visit them online at www.nhsdirect.wales.nhs.uk.
Patients with serious medical emergencies should not delay treatment. If you think you may be having a heart attack you should dial 999 first, or for any condition you feel needs urgent medical attention do not hesitate to dial 999.
Home Visits
Should a home visit be necessary please telephone before 10.00am if possible. Home visits are intended ONLY for seriously ill or housebound patients. Your Doctor can help at least 6 patients at the Surgery in the time it takes to do one home visit. Lack of transport or convenience is not a reason for requesting a home visit. It helps us to help you even more if you attend the surgery for all your needs.
Registered patients aged over 75 years who have not been seen in the previous 12 months may request a consultation. If you are unable to attend the surgery for this consultation because of your medical condition, a home visit may be arranged.
